Deep Fried Bananas

These deep fried morsels make for a great dessert, but also a filing snack. They can even be served as part of Sunday brunch.

  • 100g plain flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 orange, zest only
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 100ml full fat milk
  • 1 tablespoon of black sesame seeds
  • 2 firm bananas
  • Topping: honey and icing sugar

Preheat oil in a deep fat fryer to C190
Alternatively, you can just use a tall pan filled half way up with oil (heat the oil gradually, never leave unattended and always have a lid for the pan next to you, in case of fire). You will know when this has reached C 190 when a small drop of the batter sizzles immediately and does not sink to the bottom
Peel and chop the bananas into big chunks (3-4 out of each banana)
Combine the batter ingredients and whisk until smooth
Dip the banana chunks in the batter and fry for 3-4 minutes until golden brown
Drizzle with honey and sieve little icing sugar over the top and serve immediately
