Whole barbecued prawn

These are amazingly easy to prepare. We cook them on a barbecue, but an oven will do.

Serves 2



  • Large unpeeled prawns
  • (3-6 per person, depending on the size)
  • 50g butter (serves 4) at room butter
  • 1-2 red chillies
  • 1 bunch of chives
  • Zest and juice from 1 lime
  • Large pinch of salt


Preheat your BBQ to 180C
Chop the chives and chilli(es) finely
Combine the butter with the other ingredients (apart from the prawns)
Place the prawns on the BBQ for anything from 3-9 minutes, depending on their size, turning once
It is easy to tell whether they are done as they turn coral pink
Serve with the butter

Note: We didn’t peel the prawns to make this the easiest BBQ dish ever – let the diners do some of the work!
